MANY THANKS TO THE WONDERFUL LIZZY KAY

21 Dec 2023 by Russell Holschier

With the cancellation of the Junior Christmas party, We were unfortunately unable to wish Lizzy Kay the farewell she deserved.

For around ten years, Lizzy has been a most vital cog in the DTC junior competition machinery, and many a time it has been that when it looked like it may all fall apart, Lizzy was there to make sure it all ran smoothly.

Lizzy’s oldest child Jack started competition around 2013, and was followed by her sister Ella and younger brother Luke. All these younger Kays showed themselves to be tremendously helpful, with Jack taking on the Future Leader’s course, and all three winning our junior player of the year at some time. This was no doubt and not in the least due to the example set by Lizzy’s tireless work, organising games, raffles, food for the canteen, barbecues, etc, as well as the responsibility of supervising the comp matches, setting up the canteen cash system, keeping everyone Covid safe, etc, etc, etc.

Lizzy and I started our journey in the DTC juniors at around the same time, and now, with Luke turning 19 in September, the time has come for Lizzy to call it a day. I would say that with the people around now, she leaves it in a better place than it had been, but, honest to say, Lizzy’s contributions are irreplaceable, and we will miss her immensely.

The Kays, of course, are still a big presence at the club (let’s not forget the contributions of husband David), and we hope to see Lizzy and the gang around the club for a long time yet.

Thanks also to Andrew and Marg Kimber for organising the flowers that we eventually gave to her.
